Natural Materials

Our class visited the exhibition called Natural Materials by Richard Loskot and Michal Šimonfy.
The artists wanted to describe our everyday life and nature.
So we walked to the first room and there was one light and mirrors all over the room so the light traveled through mirrors across the whole room. Then we went to the second room and there was this:

It was a computer connected to a projector. There were many green dots and each one of them symbolized  life of our words. The room number three symbolized our everyday life. It was dark in the room and we could hear things that we hear every day, such as music, dogs, or water.
In my opinion, the room number four was the most interesting. There was a table and two chairs for 2 people. They put on some little sensors on their fingers and it scanned their heartbeats which you could see on the table. If the hearts of the 2 people beat at the same time, a circle in the middle of the table appear.
Then we went to the last room of the exhibition. There was a dried rose and reflectors and it looked like this:

On the opposite part of the room there was a huge fruitmap and you could see many types of trees all over the world.
And I think that's all I can say. (:

Secessionist Art

The Secession (from the Latin secessio, or split) refers to the conscious departure of certain groups of artists from official and academic circles. The Secession took a stand against the standardization of form and industrialized manufacturing, and may be viewed as part of the fight against mass production and its perceived threat to human individuality. Among members of
the Secession are: Gustav Klimt, Antonio Gaudì, Victor Horta, Carl Fabergé, Peter Behrens, Koloman Moser, Alfons Mucha, Walter Maria Olbrich, Franz von Stuck, Fritz von Uhde, Henry van de Velde, and Otto Wagner.

I was in a gallery with my schoolmates last week. We saw a lot of interesting pictures and we have also learnt some new things about secessionist art. Then we had to paint our own pictures in groups. Here is our painting:

Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was born on 15 April 1452 in Vinci, which is a small town near Florence, Italy. He was scientist,  mathematician, anatomist, architect and writer but he was most famous as a painter. He was curious about everything in nature. He didn't go to university to study it, he studied by looking a things. He drew everything into his notebooks and made notes. There are 13, 000 pages of notes and drawings and many of them are scientific studies. He was always thinking about new inventions. Some of the ideas that he thought of were a helicopter, a tank, a parachute, a calculator or a robot.
Here are some oh his most famous paintings:

Mona Lisa (1479-1528)

 Lady with an Ermine (1483-1490)

The Last Supper (1498)

A Conversation Leading Elsewhere

Me and my class were on an exhibition by
Mária Čorejová. It's called A Conversation Leading Elsewhere.

We had a tour of the works and we discussed
some of the main ideas of each work.

Then we could choose a copy of one of Maria's works and develop it.
I was in a group with my classmates. We thought that those works
were a little but depressive and sad so we decided to add colours to our
work. We found out that we have just black pens and pencils so we
decided to write colours there. :)
And here is the result:

Validation

If you haven't seen it yet, you should definitely watch it.
It's the story of a man who likes making people smile. He gives them a lot of compliments and they always leave happy and they smile. He thought that he can make everyone smile, but once he met a girl who take photos of people for their license. People on their photos looked very sad and upset. He gave her a lot of compliments, but she never smiled. He became very sad because of it and he stopped giving people compliments.
A few weeks later he started to take photos of people. One day he met a woman who was on a wheelchair and she was very sad so he told her that she was beautiful.
One day he went to the dentist and he saw some man's license and his photo where he was smiling. He ran to find that girl and when he finally found her, she was smiling. She told him that she was sad because of her mother. She was very ill and she was on a wheelchair. But one day some man told her how beautiful she was and after years she got better.
And then they kissed and they lived happily ever after.

Earth Hour

Earth Hour is a worldwide event organized by the World Wide Fund (WWF) and it's held on the last Saturday of March every year. The WWF asks people to shut off their lights for one hour. It started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia.

Earth Hour 2013 was held on 23 March at 8:30pm - 9:30pm.
I think it's a great idea. It's something we can do together to save a little bit of energy.

I was at home with my family and at 8:30pm we turned off the lights and lit some candles. Here are some photos I took during the Earth Hour :)

Youth Without Youth

We recently watched a movie "Youth Without Youth" in school. It is a fantasy drama movie starring Tim Roth as Dominic Matei. It's directed by Francis Ford Coppola and it's based on the novel of the Romanian author Mircea Eliade.
The story is set in Romania and it's about professor Dominic Matei who got struck by lightning and by some miracle, he's young again.
This movie is quite interesting and I really like the acting. I like this movie even if it's a little bit hard to understand it.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

When I saw the first movie of The Hunger Games trilogy last year, I said to myself that I have to read the books. And they are absolutely amazing. I'm really looking forward to the next movie. Production officially began filming on September 10, 2012 and the movie is scheduled to be released on November 22, 2013.

What it will be about?
After winning the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark return home to District 12. On the day that Katniss and Peeta are to start a "Victory Tour", she is visited by President Snow. He is angry at her for threatening to commit suicide with Peeta at the end of Hunger Games, which permitted them both to win. President Snow tells Katniss that when she defied the Capitol, she created talk of rebellion in the districts.

Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Willow Shields and more.

My Favourite Website

There's a lot of web pages I use every day. But my most favourite website is www.youtube.com . There is a lot of funny and sometimes interesting videos. And there is also a lot of music, what I like the most. I spend a lot of time watching videos from The Ellen DeGeneres Show channel. It's an American television talk show hosted by comedian Ellen DeGeneres. She always makes me laugh and when I have a bad mood I just watch her videos and that make me a little happier. :)
I often use www.google.com or www.wikipedia.org. But I use them mostly for school projects. I also like www.facebook.com where I also spend a lot of time. :)

Pollution

Pollution is the introduction of a contaminant into the environment. It is created mostly by human actions, but can also be a result of natural disasters. Pollution has a detrimental effect on any living organism in an environment, making it virtually impossible to sustain life. Pollution harms the Earth’s environment and its inhabitants in many ways. There are three main types of pollution; land pollution, air pollution and water pollution.

Land pollution is pollution of the earth's natural land surface by industrial, commercial, domestic and agricultural activities. The best way to prevent land pollution is to recycle. We should reuse any items that we can, buy biodegradable products or buy products that have little packaging.

Air pollution is the accumulation of hazardous substances into the atmosphere that danger human life and other living matter. Some of the main contributors to air are automobile emissions, tobacco smoke, manufacturing buildings and so on. The number one way to prevent air pollution is to walk or bike more and drive less. This will prevent fossil fuels from polluting the air.

Water pollution is the introduction of chemical, biological and physical matter into large bodies of water that degrade the quality of life that lives in it and consumes it. Some of the main contrubutors to water pollution are factories, waste treatment facilities or minning. The best way to prevent water pollution is to not throw trash and other harmful chemicals into our water supplies. We should wash our cars far away from any stormwater drains, don't throw trash, chemicals or solvents into sewer drains or use non-toxic cleaning materials.

I think that humans in general have disconnected themselves from nature. In my opinion pollution is a problem and probably always will be. Until people are using less fossil fuels and more renewable energy a real impact will not be really made.
